Making a difference to the people of Medway

Cllr Mike O'Brien: Join us to engage on health issues

Letter posted on Wednesday, 12 August 2009

Cllr Mike O'Brien Since being appointed as chairman of the health and adult social care overview and scrutiny committee, it has been our endeavour to raise the profile of health in Medway.

To this end, it has been agreed to hold the next meeting at the Rainham Mark Social Club on Thursday, August 20, at 6pm.

This is a first for Medway and I do hope residents will come along to get involved. There will be a discussion on the possible impact of mobile phone masts on health with a presentation by regeneration director Robin Cooper.

We have invited NHS Medway to present its contingency plans around the winter period and how A&E in particular will cope with seasonal demand, especially in light of swine flu.

The South East Coast Ambulance Trust will be talking about its implication for foundation trust status. The presentation is part of the Trust’s 12-week public consultation, which runs until Friday, October 16.

By holding the meeting in the community I am hoping we will generate a lively debate about health issues in Medway.

Cllr Mike O’Brien is Chair of Health and Adult Social Care O&S committee and member for Rainham Central Ward
