Celebrations in Cliffe as play area is set to be improved

Press release posted on Friday, 29 May 2009

Cllr Les Wicks with the Cliffe Children's Committee Campaigners in Cliffe are celebrating after their local play area was earmarked for improvement under a new scheme administered by Medway Council.

Local councillor Les Wicks has been campaigning with the local Cliffe Children’s Committee to improve the local play area with new facilities that cater for a wide age range.

Under the new Playbuilder scheme, the site in Church Road, Cliffe will now be transformed into an accessible, safe and outstanding play facility.

Cllr Wicks met with Donna Haselden and Laura Farrelly of the Cliffe Children’s Committee to celebrate the news and to hear their thoughts on what the new play area should look like.

A consultation is being conducted for the next few weeks to get residents of all ages’ views on the design for the new play area.

Conservative Councillor for Strood Rural Cllr Les Wicks said “this is exciting news for the residents and the children of Cliffe who have been campaigning to get their only play area improved. We will be working together to make sure that the new play area meets the needs of the local residents, and have facilities that cater for a wide age range.”

The Cliffe Children’s Committee was formed to improve the local community and campaign for better facilities for young people. Their fundraising activities include a forthcoming Nostalgia Night on 25 July at Cliffe Memorial Hall.
